Body Image

There has been a push for more representation of all body types in the media to promote healthier mindsets for the youth. In one study, women gradually rated themselves as less attractive, having less body satisfaction, and an overall more negative mood after prolonged exposure to fit women being shown working out with a caption praising their physical model. A rise has occurred in “fitspiration” on social media such as Facebook and Instagram, but this is not the only place this can be seen. In that same study, it was shown that women who work out and rated themselves as "more fit" were less influenced by outside factors. One of the most phenomenal examples is that women reported they felt stronger, more self-confident, and had higher levels of body satisfaction after only one week of a pole fitness class.

Why choose exercise?

You are NOT alone!

  • The media can have a negative effect by demonstrating relatively unattainable body types.

  • When you work out, you are more likely to see yourself as a strong, healthy and attractive individual, regardless of any physical changes.

  • There are hormones released after your workout, that increase overall mood and metabolism.
